Ways to prepare to listen to (and learn from) October 2024 General Conference

https://www.ldsliving.com/president-freemans-favorite-tip-for-conference-journaling/s/12476 Important article!

Although I have done this before, I am trying, AGAIN, to elicit participation by discussing ways to gain a greater spirituality and growth experience through listening to General Conference.

As I am starting this I am trying something different.  When I was doing my newsletter I would start at the beginning of the month and work on the newsletter for much of the entire month.  A good deal of this process would be do revise the work that I had done for that next month's newsletter.  When I hit dry spells in the newsletter I was working on, or had a special insight for a subsequent newsletter, I would even start putting those thoughts down.  However, I wouldn't 'post' the newsletter until I felt that it was sufficiently edited to be the final draft.  However, I am at a different stage in this process.  Since I am starting this post for October at the very last day of September my timing needs to be different.  While having so short a lead time between starting the newsletter and putting it out might not be as important in other months, since the main thing that I want to talk about, General Conference, is at the start of October, I don't have as much time to work out the kinks first.  Because of this I am going to post what I have now and, as there are more things that I care to add, I will put those in this post.

I will start with a couple of basic points that we have been shown before previous conferences.

In the September 2011 Ensign magazine Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf taught that we should, "Ask Questions and Look for Answers". He said that "Answers to your specific prayers may come directly from a particular talk or from a specific phrase. At other times answers may come in a seemingly unrelated word, phrase or song. A heart filled with gratitude for the blessings of life and an earnest desire to hear and follow the words of counsel will prepare the way to person revelation." from the following post.

(“General Conference—No Ordinary Blessing,” Ensign or Liahona, September 2011, 5).

In the above message Elder Uchtdorf gives 3 specific recommendations that are valuable in studying the conference talks. In this he reminds us that, as members of Christ's church we are entitled to personal revelation that we shouldn't dismiss because what we hear sounds familiar. He goes on to state that the reason for the familiarity is due in part to the fact that the General Authorities are building a strong foundation. Also, I feel that the repetition is also due in part to the fact that we sometimes have a tendency to ignore messages until they do become familiar and difficult to ignore. One of the biggest takeaways is that this, like all previous conferences, should be a compass that points our way for the next few months - until our next conference.

Although I am momentarily ending here, I would like to put out a request. It is something that goes along with what has been suggested before. This is something that I have used in previous newsletters. It was suggested that we find certain phrases from each of the talks that speak to us. I would then like you to let me know what these phrases are and why they are important to you and how you would like to use them in your life.

Thanks for reading and sharing!!

The following should provide a link to an article on the Church's web site that talks about the April 2024 Conference - providing insites helping us get ready for the conference coming up.

April 2024 general conference: Announcements, talk summaries, sesson highlights

One of the reasons that I'm not delving into this as much as I would normally like to is because I didn't have the motivation, or receive any kind of inspiration, until yesterday.  Unfortunately this is to late to follow one of the pieces of advice given.  This was about reading one April 2024 Conference talk each day between September 3 and October 4.  They explained that:

The April 2024 conference featured 32 messages over the five sessions. President Russell M. Nelson, President of the Church, spoke in the Sunday afternoon session in recorded remarks. President Dallin H. Oaks, first counselor in the First Presidency, spoke in the Sunday morning session, and President Henry B. Eyring, second counselor in the First Presidency, spoke in the Saturday morning session.

The article has links to what happened during the conference and talk summaries to specific talks.  I was going to copy them over, but I decided to just have the link (if you could let me know which way your prefer, I would appreciate it),
